The Barnard Catalogue
The Barnard Catalogue, formally titled the Catalogue of Dark Markings in the Sky, is a fundamental astronomical list of dark nebulae compiled by American astronomer Edward Emerson Barnard. These objects are dense clouds of interstellar dust that block the light from stars behind them, appearing as dark patches or “holes” against the bright backdrop of the Milky Way.
